CPT Testing in Sierra Leone
September 20th, 2012
African Minerals Ltd., has invested heavily in the exploitation of the Tonkolili iron ore deposit at Pepel, Sierra Leone. As part of the rehabilitation of their loading facility the existing jetty is renovated and extended with two mooring dolphins. This to make the jetty suitable to receive large modern-day vessels.
Gouda-Geo is present there as well. Geotron Drilling Company is doing both the onshore and nearshore piezocone Cone Penetration Tests (CPTU) using a versatile 200 kN stand-alone CPT penetrometer pusher.
The picture shows a free-standing support platform with ballasted foot (built locally) on which the 200 kN CPT penetrometer pusher is mounted. The free-standing platform can be lifted into and out of the water by means of the deckcrane.
