Extremely Worn Electric CPT Cone
February 12th, 2018Electric CPT(U) cones are subject to wear during the CPT tests. That is a thing we are all familiar with. In some soils the cone wears quicker than in other soils. This week we received a S15CFII electric CPT cone that has definitely seen better days. The conical tip is almost gone, there is no quad-ring in sight and the shoulder of the conical tip has vanished at a certain point. This means that forces that would normally have been projected on the conical tip are now transferred directly to the friction sleeve of the cone. This has most certainly led to faulty CPT results.
Please guys, pay attention to your equipment. Electric CPT(u) cones are high-precision measuring instruments and ought to be handled with utmost care at all times!
